Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have a certain level of expertise to attend?
Knitters of just about all levels are welcome. We do our best to choose classes that will help all knitters advance their expertise, but you must already know how to knit, as these aren’t introductory classes. If you consider yourself still a beginner, feel free to reach out to us to discuss what skills you should work on before the retreat.
What is the layout of the inn like?
The Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages is spread across both sides of a small road, and our events will take place on all parts of the property. If you have mobility concerns, feel free to reach out to us info@seascapeknittrips.com in advance to discuss the layout and distances in more details.
Can you accommodate food allergies?
Yes, please be sure let us know of any allergies or food restrictions during registration.
What if I want to bring a friend who doesn’t knit?
Non-knitting companions are welcome! Travel companions who will be sharing a room with you can enjoy all meals with us for $450pp. They are welcome to join in the evening gatherings and sunset stroll, as well.
Do I need to stay onsite?
Yes, all participants in the retreat need to stay onsite at the Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages. We have specially discounted rooms at several different price points, and your link to book a room will be sent once you submit your registration.
What if I’d like to arrive early, or stay late?
Our discount room rates ($194-234 per night) will be extended before and after the retreat if you’d like to enjoy a longer trip.
Does the inn have a pool or hot tub?
Yes, the property has both a pool and a hot tub, located on the Lodge side. In addition, many of the rooms feature Jacuzzis.
What sorts of things should I do in the area with my free time on Saturday?
The Monterey Peninsula has a plethora of interesting activities and no end of natural beauty. You might decide to visit the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, walk the coastline, take a whale-watching excursion, stop by Point Pinos Lighthouse, look for butterflies at the Monarch Grove Sanctuary, play a game of golf, go bird watching, or visit the beaches and charming towns that surround us. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite recommendations here.
Will there be any yarn shopping at the event?
On Saturday evening, we’ll host a little pop-up shop after dinner, featuring one of our favorite local dyers. There’s also a wonderful yarn shop about a mile from the inn, Monarch Knitting.
Is there homework I’ll need to complete in advance?
Only a tiny bit: For one of the classes you’ll need to bring a plain stockinette swatch in worsted weight yarn that’s approximately 6”x6” — or if you prefer, you can bring a machine-knit or store-bought piece that’s about the same size and a similar gauge (around 4-5 sts/in).
What supplies will I need to bring?
Please bring with you:
- A pencil and sketchbook or notebook
- your favorite handknit item,
- scrap yarn and needles
- any items/photos/tearsheets that inspire you
- scraps of smooth dk- to Aran-weight yarn in a few different colors
- a tapestry needle big enough to work with your yarn scraps
- a crochet hook in the 3.5mm to 4.5 mm range, scissors
- two balls or cakes of a not-quite-matching yarn, wound and ready to use. (This could be hand-dyed yarns that are supposed to be the same but aren’t, or solid yarn of the same color but different dye lots.)
- Circular needles (any length, though 16-24′ is easiest) or dpns in the size you usually use for the above yarn (single-point needles will not work for our exercises)
- scissors
