Let’s Tuck and Roll! Exploring the Tuck Stitch with Mieka John
If you’ve knit brioche you’ve already been creating tuck stitches! Brioche is the very first step into tuck stitches, an exciting way to add endless options of texture and depth to your knitting. The plush and colorfully rich fabric created with tuck stitches is like a magnet for your fingers.
In this class students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the tuck stitch, defining the different elements of a tuck stitch and how we can change each of the “dials” for all kinds of possibilities! This class will guide students through the terminology, how to read tuck stitch charts and how to read the knitted fabric by knitting up single, double, and triple stacked tuck stiches – and how they affect the resulting fabric in your class project.
Whether you want to demystify this intriguing technique or to add a distinct element to your own designs, you’ll find something in this class to enrich your knitting!
Participants should be familiar with the following techniques:
Track 1 – knit/purl
Track 2 – beginner brioche, cast on/bind off, and knitting flat.
Purl Wise with Amy Snell
Purling is often considered the problem child of the stitch world, and different traditions have found different methods of creating the stitch. In this class we’ll explore Norwegian purling as well as other methods from around the world. We’ll dive into Russian/Eastern (combination) purling, Portugese purling and even try our hands and knitting backwards.
We’ll consider some of the common issues we have with standard purl techniques and some different ways to address them. We’ll explore the effect our purling method can have on gauge and fabric quality, and learn which techniques help us most.
Snip Your Knits: Steek with Confidence with Mieka John
Does the thought of taking scissors to your freshly knit project fill you with dread? Steeking might seem intimidating but there’s no need to fear! In this class you’ll gain the knowledge you need to confidently snip your knits. Steeking is a useful and versatile skill that no knitter should be without.
By taking this class, you’ll learn the crochet and hand-sewn reinforcement methods of performing a steek. The more times you do it, the less scary it gets! So, armed with your favorite pair of scissors, be prepared to cut your class projects to bits!
Paricipants should be familiar with the following techniques:
Track 1: knit/purl
Track 2: cast on/bind off, working in the round, advanced stranded colorwork, beginner crochet.
The Art of Stranded Knitting with Amy Snell
From Norway to the Fair Isles and Iceland to Sweden, stranded colorwork is a staple of northern knitting traditions. In this class we’ll take an in-depth look at the history of stranded knitting and see how this technique has threaded through our craft since its earliest days. We’ll see how those roots have blossomed into beautiful Nordic traditions and consider the similarities among disparate Northern stranded color traditions before diving into the technique for ourselves.
In the hands-on portion of our class we’ll explore several different ways to improve our stranded colorwork, whether you’re new to colorwork or just tweaking your technique. We’ll evaluate different ways to form stitches and hold our yarns, learn about color dominance and what causes it, and play with best practices for reading charts.

What knitters are saying about cruising with Seascape Knit Trips…
I had so much fun! I really enjoyed the balance of knitting, classes, time with the group, and time away for excursions and exploring in port.
I truly loved getting to see Alaska, and doing it as part of the knitting group made the experience even more special. The interactions, conversations, and chance to meet everyone were wonderful and such a highlight of the trip.
This trip was an amazing introduction to cruising. It was so well-organized and I thoroughly enjoyed it all. I can’t believe how well you kept track of all the moving parts for us. All I had to do was show up and enjoy myself!
